PS101 - Paranormal Investigator Certification

The Paranormal Investigator Certification (PS101) course offered by Flamel College is one of the most respected in this field. The course is designed for students wishing to conduct paranormal investigations and research apparition and ghost sightings, the nature of the soul, poltergeist activity, and voice, electronic, and photographic evidence of paranormal activity. Included is a sophisticated electronic ghost hunting device, so you can start your investigations immediately. Successful candidates will be granted a certificate, issued a professional laminated identification card, and listed in directories of paranormal investigators if desired. The course includes a proprietary manual and syllabus to guide you step-by-step through your studies. Also included is a sophisticated electronic EMF meter used to detect ghosts (shown at right). The textbook that comes with the course is How to Be a Ghost Hunter by paranormal investigator Richard Southall. Southall has been conducting paranormal investigations for nearly twenty years and his four-phase procedure for conducting effective investigation is widely  praised for its professional and evidence-rich results. Aside from his investigations, Southall creates haunted tours, teaches workshops on ghost hunting, and has contributes to numerous periodicals, as well as being interviewed on many television and radio programs. His illustrated field-guide for paranormal researchers is the only handbook that details so many practical facets of conducting investigations:

  • How to find and research suspected haunted areas.
  • How to conduct effective eyewitness interviews.
  • How to form paranormal groups.
  • How to use electronic detection equipment in an investigation.
  • How to capture paranormal phenomena on various kinds of cameras.
  • How to record disembodied voices and paranormal sounds on tape.
  • How to assemble an affordable ghost-hunting kit.
  • How to undertake special investigations such as graveyards.

The textbook for the course also provides contact information for numerous paranormal organizations and sources for hard-to-find equipment such as electromagnetic detectors and infrared film. The book contains actual photographs in which you are asked to search for signs of paranormal energy like orbs and faces of the departed, and it includes a glossary, index, and appendices. You can purchase extra copies of this book from the Flamel College Bookstore.

PS201 - Advanced Paranormal Investigator Certification

Ghost Hunter's GuidebookThe Advanced Paranormal Investigator Certification (PS401) course is a hands-on class in conducting rigorous investigations into paranormal phenomena. This advanced course is designed for investigators wishing to expand their techniques and methodology, and the focus is on practical on-site techniques. Step-by-step methods for investigating homes, commercial and public buildings, old churches and graveyards are provided. Topics covered include researching haunted history, rules and methods of conducting investigations, interviewing witnesses and psychological factors, setting up ghost watches and documenting results, working with psychics and the media, spirit communications and getting rid of ghosts. Students will become familiar with the proper operation of paranormal research equipment such as 35 mm and digital cameras, types of film and media to use, audio and video recorders, infrared and EMF monitoring instruments, and a variety of other electronic survey equipment. The goal of this course is to teach the student how to put theory and research methods into actual practice and gain confidence as a professional investigator.

Students must set up a paranormal investigation from beginning to end and document the results in an official report (1,500 words). Students may choose to investigate their own home, or a friend's, or choose an outdoor location, or a public building. Students may also elect to conduct a "virtual" investigation of a known haunted place by writing the report as if they had actually visited the location and conducted an on-site investigation. A panel of paranormal experts will examine the report for style, completeness, and accuracy and return it to the student for reworking. The report will be judged for methodology, historical research, interviewing protocol, documentation, and use of paranormal equipment. Only students who are able to submit an acceptable report within two attempts will pass this course. Accepted reports on genuine (on-site) investigations will be published and distributed to paranormal research organizations. However, an actual on-site investigation is not required. Successful candidates will be certified and listed as professional paranormal investigators.

The course includes the highly regarded Ghost Hunters Guidebook, as well as a course syllabus. Official forms include Investigation Permission, Information Release, Paranormal Vigil Log, and Logbook page. Paranormal Investigation software is included to track investigators, events, and evidence such as photographs and EVP on a case-by-case basis. A 45-min DVD of an actual filmed investigation by a certified investigator (selected case varies) will be provided as an exemplary case. There is also a Paranormal Resource CD that includes example cases, investigative reports, ghost photographs, EVP audio files, and paranormal software. No prerequisites to enroll in this course. Tuition is $95.

PS301 - Certified EVP Technician

Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) are unexplainable paranormal audible events of unknown origin, which can be heard and captured in recordings on various types of electronic recording apparatus. The phenomenon has been captured using radios, televisions, tape recorders, telephones and answering machines, film, and a variety of digital equipment. The most successful efforts involve using pure “White Noise,” a random background sound devoid of any outside or terrestrial signals. Interest in EVP began in the1920s, when Thomas Edison suggested the possibility of constructing a machine to communicate with the dead. “It is possible to construct an apparatus,” he said in an interview in Scientific American, “which will be so delicate that if there are personalities in another existence or sphere who wish to get in touch with us in this existence or sphere, this apparatus will at least give them a better opportunity to express themselves than the tilting tables and rapping and ouija boards and mediums and the other crude methods now purported to be the only means of communication.” During World War II there was a rash of EVP recordings intercepted by military equipment, but serious research began with the electronic age in the 1950s. Today most paranormal researchers agree that EVP is an actual, recurring system of interdimensional communication. Students will be taught how to successfully capture EVP using a variety of equipment, how to set up EVP sessions, how to capture evidence of the phenomena, and how to record and analyze the results using the computer software provided. EVP is the fastest growing segment of paranormal research and many organizations are seeking certified EVP technicians.

The course includes the EVP Technician Manual, setup check-sheets, and a sampling of startling, actual EVP recordings. Sound monitoring, editing, and enhancing software is also included. Tuition: $85.
